A COLLABORATIVE LEARNING ENVIRONMENT

project: jordan springs elementary school

Founded in 2020, Jordan Springs Elementary School is an 82,300 square-foot building that accommodates more than 500 students. Justin Raymond, the school’s principal began with a vision for a school that was more collaborative in nature, with many project-based learning opportunities. Collaborative work helps students grow because they are more willing to take risks, so collaborative learning spaces became part of the school’s design.

Challenges arose as the vision was met with the realities of containing costs. While the school board wanted a highly flexible building, designed for an array of learning methods and future uses, budget was also a big concern.

Solution: We were more involved with owner meetings carefully explaining the decisions made and providing feedback on the trade-offs with alternative solutions that were more cost effective up front. By providing a higher level of construction administration, we were able to keep the owner informed on construction issues and to resolve issues quicker.
