These barracks located in Iraq were mid-build when disaster struck. This 2-story structure was damaged by a fire, likely caused by a welding machine that ignited the wood form work meant to support the second floor. Our challenge was to assess the effects of the fire and determine if repairs need to be made, and the extent of exposed concrete and reinforcement that can be reused. We completed this work remotely based on photos and a report of testing that was provided to select areas of the buildings concrete and reinforcement. Solution: We provided a report with guidance on the specific indicators of structural damage so onsite representatives could confirm our conclusions that the building was sound and the materials could be reused.
